Manufacturer Makes Changes to Talking Baby Doll

baby dollIt’s a little doll! But it’s causing a big controversy. Now the manufacturer is making some changes. The doll is supposed to just coo and say mommy, but some say when they got it home. It said a lot more!

A viewer e-mailed us saying that the talking doll says “Islam is the light.” So we took it to a mommy and her daughter to see if they heard the same thing. You’ll be surprised at what people hear when they’re not turned on to the phrase.

“This is an interesting baby doll,” said Andrea Griffin.

Andrea Griffin and her 2 year old daughter Sarah check out the Little Mommy Cuddle ‘N Coo doll. We haven’t told them what people suspect the doll is saying.

“To be honest really I can’t understand what the baby is saying,” said Griffin.

Andrea gives it a closer test. “Something I like,” said Griffin.

Sarah is the appropriate age for the doll, it says for 2 years of age and up. All she cares about is the keys on the box.

Now andrea has listened to the doll several times.

“I got the like, I got the light,” said Griffin.

The word light is now clear, so we reveal what others believe the doll is saying, Islam is the light.

“Lets see what this baby says. We have to play quiet mouse,” said Griffin.

Andrea analyzes again.

“It says something is the light. I’m not sure if it’s an igloo, Islam or igla. But something is the light with this baby. Maybe this baby is inspired. Maybe this baby is the future of children. I don’t know,” said Griffin.

It’s not something she’s going to buy for her children because she’s not sure about the message.

“We’re a christian family and Islam although is a point of many people’s culture it’s not part of our culture and part of our beliefs as a family and of our faith. So I’m going to encourage something that you know I want my children to believe in and to aspire to. Islam is not something other than history or knowing of other cultures than I would encourage from a faith base prospective,” said Griffin.

We talked with Willowbrook Baptist Pastor Mark McClelland about the doll.

“As a pastor, as a Christian I’m not threatened by a doll. I don’t think our churches are going to empty and have a bunch of people follow Muhammad because of a talking doll, but as a dad, I feel Fisher Price has an obligation to parents to either pull it off the shelves or label it for what it is,” said Mark McClelland.

Fisher Price responded.

“The Little Mommy Cuddle ‘N Coo dolls feature realistic baby sounds including cooing, giggling, and baby babble with no real sentence structure,” said Juliette Reashor, Public Realtions with Fisher Price. “The only scripted word the doll says is “mama.” There is a sound that may resemble something close to the word “night, right, or light.” To avoid any potential misinterpretation, we have eliminated that segment of the sound file from future production.”
